Use the rule of thumb strategy to find a good book to read by yourself.

Open the book to a middle page.
Start reading that page
Put a finger down each time you struggle with a word.
If you thumb is still up at the end of that page,
that's a great book for you to read by yourself.
If not have mom and dad read to you!
Enjoy Reading this Summer!

Christmas Concert 2019
The first grade students did an awesome job singing at both concerts.
We all were very shiny, sparkly and handsome!

Our first three weeks of school have been awesome! We have done so many things already. We made number lines and marked all the even numbers with red dots, the counting by 5 numbers with yellow dots and the counting by 10 numbers with blue dots. Right now the number lines only go up to 30, but later on they will go all the way to 120. We are also making lots of different kinds of patterns, reviewing our vowel and consonant sounds, reading stories from our decodable books and reading text books and learning about God's World. This week we will be learning about weather and using some new technology skills. Did you know Mrs. Volberding is going to Technology School? It's called Tec21. She goes once a month and brings back new ideas for us to use in our classroom. I wonder what we'll be doing next???

E-Books by First Grade

The first grade students made digital illustrations about how butterflies grow. Then they wrote a sequencing story about the life cycle of a butterfly. Finally, they recorded their voice reading their stories. Hope you enjoy their work!

These stories are run by adobe flash player and you may not be able to view them on your phone or tablet.

Katharina: A Butterfly Tale

Milo: Will be linked when the story is completed

Matthew: Matthew's Tale
